Frequently Asked Questions

Making your home safer and more comfortable can feel overwhelming, and it’s natural to have questions about where to start. Our FAQ section is designed to give you clear, practical answers about the Aging in Place process—from the role of an Occupational Therapist to project costs, timelines, and funding options. Whether you’re planning small upgrades or a full remodel, these answers will help you understand what to expect and how we can support you every step of the way.

Here are just some of the services we provide.

1. What does “Aging in Place” mean?
Aging in Place means making thoughtful home modifications and lifestyle adjustments so you can live safely, comfortably, and independently in your own home—both now and in the future.

2. Why involve an Occupational Therapist (OT) instead of a general contractor?
Unlike a general contractor, an OT looks at your functional abilities, medical history, and daily routines. They prescribe modifications that match your tasks, strengths, and risks—ensuring changes actually solve real problems and improve your quality of life.

3. What does the home assessment include?
Our OT-led assessment is hands-on and personalized. It typically covers:

  • A full home walkthrough

  • Task simulation (watching how you move, cook, bathe, and navigate spaces)

  • Lighting and contrast evaluation

  • Reach ranges for storage and counters

  • Mobility and doorway access

  • Bathroom and kitchen safety review

  • Trialing recommended equipment where possible

4. Who installs the modifications?
We connect you with our vetted contractor network—professionals experienced in accessibility upgrades. The OT provides clinical specifications, oversees recommendations, and verifies the fit and function once modifications are complete.

5. How fast can we complete a project?
It depends on the scope. Quick fixes (like grab bars, ramps, or lighting) can often be completed within days. Larger remodels (like bathrooms or kitchens) may take a few weeks. We also offer rapid-install options for high-risk hazards.

6. How much does it cost?

Costs vary widely. Quick wins such as grab bars or lighting upgrades may be very affordable, while full remodels (bathrooms, kitchens, or entryways) require a larger investment. After your assessment, we provide a detailed estimate tailored to your home.

7. Do you help with funding or insurance?

Yes. Some modifications may be partially covered through insurance, Medicare/Medicaid waivers, Veterans Affairs programs, or local grant opportunities. We help guide you through funding options available in your area.

8. What are the most common home upgrades?

Popular modifications include:

  • Walk-in showers with non-slip flooring

  • Grab bars and sturdy railings

  • Widened doorways and hallways

  • Ramps and step-free entryways

  • Improved lighting and contrast

  • Smart-home safety devices

  • Pull-down or easy-reach cabinets

9. Can family members be involved in the process?

Absolutely. Family involvement ensures peace of mind, helps with decision-making, and keeps everyone aligned with long-term care goals.

10. How long does an assessment take?

Most in-home assessments take 60–90 minutes, depending on the size of the home and complexity of needs.

11. Do you provide follow-up support?

Yes. We stay engaged throughout the project and can revisit your plan as your needs evolve to ensure your home continues to support your lifestyle.

12. Is this only for seniors?

No. Our services are also valuable for people with disabilities, those recovering from injuries, and anyone who wants a safer, more accessible home.

13. How do I schedule an assessment?
Contact us through our website or by phone to set up a free discovery call. From there, we’ll schedule your in-home evaluation.
