D4i Home Modifications Course – Learning Objectives By the end of this course, participants will be able to: 1. Understand the concept of aging in place and its benefits for safety, independence, and quality of life. 2. Recognize common fall risks and how they impact function and daily living. 3. Identify high-risk areas in the home, especially bathrooms and tight spaces, and apply practical safety solutions. 4. Apply basic safety and accessibility strategies to support daily activities, including the use of adaptive equipment and technology. 5. Identify architectural and environmental barriers inside and outside the home, and recommend appropriate modifications. 6. Differentiate between temporary and permanent home modifications and select cost-effective solutions. 7. Understand the role of occupational therapy in home modifications, including evaluation, collaboration, and follow-up. 8. Apply learned concepts to develop simple, client-centered home modification recommendations.
